I’m a local boy. I was born and raised in Kailua and then moved to the mainland for college. I attended the University of Alabama for 2 years, then transferred to Arizona State University where I received my degree in Engineering. After graduation, I worked as an Engineer in Charlotte, NC for 3 years before deciding to switch professions and go back to school to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
My first exposure to chiropractic was when I injured myself during a dance performance at the University of Alabama. I twisted my back and immediately felt pain shooting down the back of my right leg all the way down to my little toe.
After going to the MD, they told me I only had 3 options: live with the pain, live on pain killers, or try surgery and risk losing the use of my legs. I refused to accept these options, so I tried searching for other possible solutions including massage, stretching, and exercise. None of these were able to fix my problem. Then finally (3 years later) someone suggested I try chiropractic. After a few visits, my pain began to subside and eventually the pain completely went away. While I was grateful to finally be out of pain, it upset me that chiropractic wasn’t mentioned as one of my original options by the MDs. It has since become my mission to educate people about chiropractic, so they can make educated decisions about their own health.
Growing up here in Hawaii, I’ve always had an active lifestyle. I played, coached, and refereed soccer for years. I was also very active in performing arts. I can proudly say, “I’m a Bright kid” having performed under the direction of Ron Bright in several plays in the 80s and 90s. And I’m now on the Board of Directors for the I’m A Bright Kid Foundation which supports the performing arts and education.
While I don’t do much theater anymore, I still perform on Hawaii 5-0 from time to time and sing professionally several times per month. Recently, I had the honor of being selected by Grammy winner Regina Belle to sing with her when she came to the Blue Note in Waikiki.
I firmly believe that we should all be taking an active role in our own health and wellness. I receive regular chiropractic adjustments and workout regularly. I love rock climbing, hiking, and taking fitness classes. I am also a former personal trainer and fitness instructor. I worked as the Senior Trainer for North America with Les Mills International where I trained fitness instructors in kickboxing, weightlifting, and Latin and hip-hop dance.
In my 17 years of chiropractic practice, I’ve served on a chiropractic mission trip to El Salvador, and was selected to be backstage chiropractor for various performers including Aerosmith, KISS, The Eagles, John Mayer, and Carrie Underwood. I was also one of the original members of the Fibromyalgia Centers of America where a group of international doctors shared information in order to ultimately provide fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue patients with the greatest opportunities for health and healing.
My many years of experience and engineering background have allowed me to give quick, efficient office visits with tremendous success in a wide variety of cases from back pain and migraines, to fatigue and fibromyalgia. I look forward to serving the greater Honolulu/Aiea area!
